An invisible choir sings, and you are bathed in radiance...--More-- The voice of Anhur booms out: "Congratulations, mortal!"--More-- "In return for thy service, I grant thee the gift of Immortality!"--More-- You ascend to the status of Demigoddess...--More-- Do you want your possessions identified? "... Roth says he's setting out to make 'the sickest, most disturbing film I can' ..." [Jan. 9th, 2006|03:03 am]
This disturbs me.

This disturbs me even more. (Movie theaters in Utah are banning Brokeback Mountain? What?)

My first actual GTK project has just reached a functional stage: clicky clicky

Much more work to come! Just thought I'd share(:

EDIT: update... everything in that shot is functional and responds correctly other than the apply button on the checkboxes(:

So many memories... wow.

The graven image stirs

  we are whole again
  and even more
  our voice our horn approaches
  the ancient ones return

The watery cheek, sullen star

K'lia and the wrathful son
S'bhuth

this + this = this

EDIT: sweet!

e17! [Sep. 17th, 2005|05:59 pm]
[mood |jubilantenlightened]

So, a few days ago, Eric decided to try out OSX for x86, since he was bored of Windows. It was cool for a few days, but ultimately not functional enough to be usable as a full-time OS. He decided to try out Linux again, just for the heck of it, and ended up with a dual-boot Gentoo/Windows XP setup on his laptop. He installed Gnome at first, but then decided to be adventurous and see how the E17 project was coming along, since he really liked E16 back when he used to use Linux. Luckily, Gentoo made the whole thing very easy, with ebuilds that compiled everything straight from CVS, and it was up and running fairly quickly and painlessly.

And... wow. It has come so incredibly far since the initial release, and for an absolutely beautiful looking desktop, there is nothing out there that even comes close. It is almost entirely functional at this point; there are just a bunch of bugs to fix and pretty much the whole configuration system to write (configuring everything still takes some work for certain things, especially Entrance, the login manager). I kept messing around with it for almost 2 days straight though, and here are the results:

gaim.png: My main desktop, with gaim and gkrellm2 (using the NLog theme). Also showing Engage's zoom capabilities.
background.png: A screenshot showing off a better view of the background (created by rasterman, the creator of Enlightenment), as well as Exige, the run dialog, and the H20 GTK theme that I modified to fit the color scheme.
aterms.png: A few aterms, and showing off the multi-instance app capabilities of Engage.
entice-elicit.png: Entice is the E17 image viewer, and Elicit is a simple color picker app.
evidence.png: Evidence is the file manager for E17. It is using the Gant theme and icon set.
evidence-tooltip.png: Evidence, showing a tooltip for a .png file.
menu.png: The E17 menu, accessed by left clicking on the desktop.
firefox.png: Firefox, using the Mars theme.
gimp.png: Me using the GIMP to modify the GTK theme. Shows Entice and Elicit again, as well as the task switcher (alt+tab).

There is so much about this that isn't visible in the screenshots, though... almost everything in it is animated, making for some really awesome effects, and the ease of use is better than anything else I've used so far. Really, it's just quite amazing, and I can't wait until they get everything finished up and can actually make a release... after 6 years of development, most people had given up any hope of that, but after using it for the past few days, I'm actually hopeful for it again(:

The past three days have been exactly what I have been needing for quite a while, for exactly all the reasons I have been so impatient to get to college. I'll probably post a longer description later when I don't have to get to class, but for now, I'll just say that this year is already starting out sooo much better than last. I'm meeting new friends, going out and doing things with them, and I haven't been at my computer for more than an hour or two ever since i've been here, and it has been absolutely amazing. Hopefully it will continue now that classes are starting... we'll see(:
